Reef Retreat was built in 1970's on a deep water canal in Marathon, Florida.
At the time, commercial fishing was booming and heavy construction was underway. In order to accommodate the influx of commercial fishing, neighbors like ours were developed. Most developments consisted of 2/1 split homes to keep the ratio of commercial fisherman to water frontage high. However, over the years tighter regulations and a changing ecosystem drove many of the commercial fishermen out of the area.
Thus giving places like Reef Retreat the opportunity to become a place for visitors to stay and enjoy!
In 2021, Reef Retreat was purchased by John Jacobs. As a frequent visitor to Marathon, John had always dreamed of a place of his own to share with those who also enjoy the Florida Keys.
Equally south of Key Largo and north of Key West, Marathon Island sits in the heart of the Florida Keys.
Being centrally located provides the opportunity for day trips both north and south. However, most will find no reason to leave the island as Marathon Florida is considered by most to be the sport fishing capital of the world.
Reef Retreats proximity to Sombrero Beach and all of your local amenities including grocery stores and restaurants makes it the ideal location for your stay.
